In August 2020 we set off on a loop around the Eggishorn, with a wonderful team — several of whom were Colombian friends experiencing their very first bivouac and alpine hike.
We got to contemplate the Aletsch Glacier — the largest glacier in the Alps — stretching out below us. Spending a night out there, under the stars at altitude, is the kind of experience that stays with you.
The local wildlife, had interesting plans. A determined group of sheep launched a raid on our tent in the morning, their sights firmly set on our chocolate. After a spirited defense — we held on to the chocolate, brewed a hot drink, and sat together watching the glacier.
